How long does Google Ads take to start working?
Search ads can bring clicks and leads within a day or two of launch. Results become reliable after four to eight weeks, once the account has enough conversion data for smart bidding and the wasted search terms have been cut. Most of the improvement in cost per lead usually happens in months two and three.
A realistic timeline
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Days 1 to 3 | Ads go live. First clicks, calls and forms arrive. Tracking is checked against real leads. |
| Weeks 1 to 2 | Smart bidding learns. Search terms are reviewed daily and irrelevant ones are blocked. |
| Weeks 3 to 8 | Budget moves to the campaigns and keywords that produce leads. Ads and landing pages are tested. |
| Months 2 to 3 | Cost per lead or return on ad spend settles. Scaling starts if the numbers hold. |
What slows results down
- Broken or missing conversion tracking. Smart bidding optimises toward whatever you measure, so bad data means bad decisions.
- Budgets too small to gather data. A campaign needs enough clicks each week to learn.
- Frequent big changes, which restart the learning period.
- Slow or confusing landing pages. Ads can bring the visitor, but the page has to convert them.
What it looked like for our clients
For LIFEART Vision we fixed tracking and the account structure first, then scaled. Monthly conversions grew from 51 to 138 and cost per conversion fell 47%. For Go Bagels in New York, a full rebuild took monthly revenue from about $50,000 to about $150,000 while ad spend dropped from $15,000 to $17,000 a month to $10,000 to $11,000.
